Defendant is held in indictment charging him with three bank robberies A federal grand jury has charged Marcus A. Trimble, 30, with bank robberies in Providence, Richmond and Westerly last summer. United States Attorney Robert Clark Corrente, Sharon Ormsby, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Providence Police Chief Dean Esserman, Richmond Police Chief Raymond A. Driscoll, and Westerly Police Chief Edward A. Mello jointly announced a three-count indictment, which the grand jury returned on November 1 in U.S. District Court, Providence.
Trimble, whose address is not reflected in court records, pled not guilty to the charges at his arraignment on November 7 and is detained in federal custody. An indictment is merely an allegation and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
The indictment alleges that Trimble robbed tellers at a Sovereign Bank branch on Atwells Avenue, Providence, on July 20, a Washington Trust Bank branch in Richmond on August 3, and the Westerly Community Credit Union in Westerly on August 28. He is alleged to have taken a total of approximately $9,000 in the three robberies.
Providence Police, Richmond Police, Westerly Police and the FBI investigated the robberies. Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie S. Browne is prosecuting the case. -30-
