ALLSTON MAN ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTING TO PERSUADE A MINOR TO HAVE ILLICIT SEXUAL CONDUCT

Boston, MA... An Allston man was arrested last night on federal charges in connection with his attempting to persuade or entice a minor to have illicit sexual conduct. The arrest was the result of an FBI led undercover investigation conducted in Internet chat rooms.

United States Attorney Michael J. Sullivan, and Kenneth W. Kaiser, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in New England, announced that GLENN EDWARDS, age 29, of 43 Parkvale Avenue, Allston, Massachusetts, was charged in a complaint today with attempting to persuade, induce, entice or coerce a minor to have illicit sex.

According to an affidavit filed in support of the complaint, an on-line undercover investigation was initiated by the FBI. The undercover investigation involved a detective portraying himself as an underage male student while on-line in Internet chat rooms. It is alleged that at various times during the time period of May, 2006, through June 15, 2006, EDWARDS communicated on-line with the undercover detective. It is further alleged that EDWARDS made arrangements with the undercover, whom EDWARDS believed to be a 14 year old male, for EDWARDS to travel to meet the undercover for sex.

EDWARDS was arrested last night on the charges. He is scheduled to have an initial appearance at 2:00 p.m. today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert B. Collings. If convicted, EDWARDS faces a maximum prison term of 30 years.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in New England. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Dana Gershengorn in Sullivan’s Major Crimes Unit.

The details contained in the complaint are allegations. The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
