MALDEN MAN INDICTED FOR THREE BANK ROBBERIES
BOSTON, MA - A Malden man was indicted yesterday by a federal grand jury on charges that he committed three bank robberies in Malden and Medford over a one week period.
United States Attorney Michael J. Sullivan and Warren T. Bamford, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in New England, announced that PAUL R. BUMSTEAD, 37, of 81 Plainfield Avenue, Malden, Massachusetts, was indicted on three counts of bank robbery.
According to the Indictment it is alleged that on December 21, 2006, BUMSTEAD robbed the Stoneham Savings Bank branch located at 443 Charles Street in Malden of $672. Five days later on December 26, 2006, BUMSTEAD allegedly robbed the Eastern Bank branch located at 88 Broadway in Malden of $4,211. Then two days after that, on December 28, 2006, BUMSTEAD allegedly robbed the Citizens Bank branch located at 257 Spring Street in Medford of $4,340.
If convicted, BUMSTEAD faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison on each bank robbery count, to be followed by 3 years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.
The case was investigated by the Boston Bank Robbery Task Force, comprised of personnel of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Massachusetts State Police, the Boston Police Department, and Cambridge Police Department, with the assistance of the Malden and Medford Police Departments. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Antoinette E.M. Leoney in Sullivan’s Major Crimes Unit.
The details contained in the indictment are allegations. The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
