PROJECT SAFE CHILDHOOD BEDFORD MAN SENTENCED FOR POSSESSING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE: United States Attorney Tom Colantuono announced that Michael Sosnowski, 53, of Bedford appeared in United States District Court today and was sentenced to 37 months on one count of possession of child pornography in violation of federal law. Upon his release, Sosnowski will be required to register as a sex offender and will be supervised by U.S. Probation for a period of 5 years.
The investigation of Sosnowski began with the Bedford Police Department. During the course of the investigation Sosnowski admitted to the Bedford Police Department that he was in possession of images of child pornography. A search warrant was then obtained by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. A review of the defendant’s computer and computer discs by the FBI revealed numerous photographs and films of children engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The defendant waived indictment and entered a plea of guilty to the one count Information on January 22 of this year.

At his sentencing, Sosnowski stated that he wanted to apologize to the Court, to the Bedford Police Department and to many others, including the victims of child pornography “wherever they are.” He stated that he was sorry for his “intrusions and transgressions in perpetuating the pain and anguish and suffering of the victims for one minute longer.”

United States Attorney Colantuono stated: “My office is committed to investigating and prosecuting those individuals who possess, traffic, or manufacture child pornography. The possession and distribution of these images continues to victimize innocent children who are the subjects of the images. This office will dedicate the resources necessary to assure that individuals who choose to victimize children in this way are brought to justice. I appreciate the efforts of the Bedford Police Department and the FBI for their diligent work in bringing to justice those who would collect images depicting the sexual abuse of children.”

This prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Helen White Fitzgibbon.
