INMATE AT ROCKINGHAM COUNTY JAIL SENTENCED TO 78 MONTHS IN JAIL FOR MAILING THREATENING COMMUNICATIONS

CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE -- U.S. Attorney Tom Colantuono, J. Daniel Linehan, the High Sheriff of Rockingham County, Portsmouth Police Chief Michael Magnant, Somersworth Police Chief Dean Crombie, Holly Fraumeni, the Resident Agent-in-Charge of the Manchester, Office of the United States Secret Service, and Warren Bamford, the Special Agent-in-Charge of the Boston Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, announced that Elijah Wallace, a resident of Brentwood, New Hampshire, was sentenced to 78 months in jail by United States District Court Judge Joseph DiClerico yesterday.

During a hearing in federal court last January, Wallace admitted that he wrote a number of letters that contained anti-Semitic statements and threats to kill or injure other people. The letters were written while Wallace, age 24, was incarcerated at the Rockingham County House of Corrections for other crimes he committed. The threats were delivered by the United States Postal Service to private residences in Seabrook and Portsmouth, New Hampshire, the Police Departments in Portsmouth and Brentwood, New Hampshire and a school in Brentwood.

After Wallace was sentenced, U.S. Attorney Colantuono said, “The fear and trauma that was felt by the victims of this case - which includes those directly threatened by the letters, members of their families and the Jewish community at-large - is cause for great concern. The hateful and incendiary nature of this criminal conduct simply cannot be tolerated in any civilized society.”

This case was prosecuted by Criminal Chief Bob Kinsella.
