MASSACHUSETTS MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO BANK ROBBERY CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE – United States Attorney for the District of New Hampshire Tom Colantuono and Salem Police Chief Paul Donovan announce that John Macedonia, of Massachusetts, pleaded guilty today in the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire to committing the October 31, 2007 robbery of the Citizens Bank located on Broadway in Salem, New Hampshire. A sentencing hearing will be held on April 28, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. Macedonia faces a statutory maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, though the sentence recommended by the advisory sentencing guidelines is likely to be lower. He also can be fined up to $250,000. Macedonia admitted in open court that on October 31, 2008, he entered the Citizens Bank located on Broadway in Salem, New Hampshire, and handed the teller a note demanding money. When the teller initially hesitated, Macedonia told her to give him all her money. The teller provided a sum of cash to Macedonia, who then left the bank in a grey Ford Taurus. A witness at the scene captured a partial plate for the Taurus. Macedonia’s image was captured by bank security cameras and distributed through the media. A viewer identified him to police. Macedonia was arrested by the Salem Police Department and a court authorized search resulted in the recovery of some clothing worn during the robbery and a sum of cash. U.S. Attorney Colantuono stated: “This office will continue to work with local and state law enforcement officials to prosecute bank robbers. We believe that the vigilant prosecution of these individuals will contain this danger to society and deter others from committing similar crimes.” The Salem Police Department investigated this case. The FBI assisted in the investigation. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Don Feith.
