MIDDLEBORO MAN INDICTED FOR ATTEMPTED RECEIPT POSSESSION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

Boston, MA... A Middleboro man was arraigned today on an indictment charging him with receipt and possession of child pornography.

United States Attorney Michael J. Sullivan and Warren T. Bamford, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation - New England Field Division, announced that JOHNNY PIRES, age 23, of Middleboro, Massachusetts, was charged in a three count Indictment with attempted receipt and possession of visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

At the Arraignment today on the Indictment, PIRES was ordered to be placed on electronic monitoring at his home and to be on home confinement. PIRES will be allowed to leave his home for work and to attend school, with the prior approval of the Pre-Trial Services Department of the Federal Court. PIRES is presently a student at Bridgewater State College studying early childhood education.

If convicted of the charges PIRES faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years in federal prison and a maximum sentence of 20 years.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Dana Gershengorn in Sullivan’s Major Crimes Unit.

The details contained in the indictment are allegations. The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
