LACONIA MAN SENTENCED TO 13 YEAR TERM OF IMPRISONMENT FOR ENGAGING IN A BANK ROBBERY

CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE: Corey Donovan, age 26, of Laconia, New Hampshire, was sentenced today by United States District Court Judge Steven J. McAuliffe to a 13 year term of imprisonment for his involvement in the February 23, 2007, armed robbery of Franklin Savings Bank, in New Hampton, New Hampshire. Corey Donovan's sentence followed his plea to engaging in a conspiracy to rob Franklin Savings Bank, the robbery of Franklin Savings Bank, and brandishing a firearm during the bank robbery. The Court ordered that Donovan's sentence be ordered to run consecutively to an undischarged state term of imprisonment currently being served.

The prosecution of Corey Donovan established that he engaged in a conspiracy to rob the Franklin Savings Bank with numerous conspirators, including his brother, Micah Donovan, Ian Burns, Dylan Mallory and Jay Lawrence. Corey Donovan committed the actual robbery and utilized a Kel Tec Sub 2000 carbine rifle during its commission. Co-conspirator Ian Burns, armed with an AR-15, waited for Corey Donovan at a meet site following the robbery. Burns owned and provided both firearms for the robbery.

Co-conspirators Dylan Mallory and Micah Donovan conducted surveillance at the bank prior to the commission of the robbery. When the area was clear of the potential for law enforcement, Micah Donovan contacted Corey Donovan and provided him with the all-clear signal. Micah Donovan also provided ammunition for the two weapons.

Following the robbery, the group traveled to the mobile home of co-conspirator Jay Lawrence, located in Meredith, New Hampshire. While there, the group counted the proceeds from the robbery, and Ian Burns, Dylan Mallory and Micah Donovan were provided with money for their involvement. In addition, while at the residence Jay Lawrence and Corey Donovan cut up the back pack carried by Donovan during the robbery and burned it in a wood stove. After the group left, Micah Donovan obtained the boots worn by Corey Donovan during the robbery and burned them at his residence in a wood stove. Micah Donovan also obtained the camouflage clothing worn by Corey Donovan during the robbery, placed it in a brown paper bag and brought it to a co-conspirator, telling him to burn the clothing in a burn pile near the meet-site.

The prosecution was the result of an investigation by the Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, members of the New Hampshire State Police, and the New Hampton, New Hampshire, Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Terry L. Ollila.
