Malden Man Sentenced for Three Bank Robberies
BOSTON, MA—A Malden man was sentenced today in federal court committing three
bank robberies in Malden and Medford over a one week period.
Acting United States Attorney Michael K. Loucks and Warren T. Bamford, Special
Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation - Boston Field Division, announced that
PAUL R. BUMSTEAD, 39, of Malden, Massachusetts, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge
Nathaniel M. Gorton to 105 months’ imprisonment on counts one, two and three of the
Indictment, to be served concurrently. Judge Gorton also sentenced BUMSTEAD to three years
of supervised release following his release from imprisonment, and ordered him to pay $9,223 in
restitution to the three banks he robbed.
On December 23, 2008, BUMSTEAD pled guilty to three counts of bank robbery. On
December 21, 2006, BUMSTEAD robbed the Stoneham Savings Bank branch located at 443
Charles Street in Malden of $672.00. Five days later on December 26, 2006, BUMSTEAD
robbed the Eastern Bank branch located at 88 Broadway in Malden of $4,211.00. Then on
December 28, 2006, BUMSTEAD robbed the Citizens Bank branch located at 257 Spring Street
in Medford of $4,340.00.
The case was investigated by the Boston Bank Robbery Task Force, comprised of
personnel of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Massachusetts State Police, Boston Police
Department, and Cambridge Police Department, with the assistance of the Malden and Medford
Police Departments. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Antoinette E.M. Leoney in
Loucks’ Major Crimes Unit.
