Bernardston Man Sentenced for Possession of Child Pornography

SPRINGFIELD, MA—A Bernardston man was sentenced yesterday in federal court for Possession of Child Pornography.

Acting United States Attorney Michael K. Loucks and Warren T. Bamford, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation - Boston Field Division, announced today that TYLER HELBIG, age 20, of Bernardston, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Michael A. Ponsor to five years of probation with six months to be spent in a halfway house and six months to be spent in home detention. HELBIG pleaded guilty to Possession of Child Pornography on January 26, 2009.

At the earlier plea hearing, the prosecutor told the Court that, had the case proceeded to trial, the Government’s evidence would have proven that on or about March 14, 2008, the defendant possessed at least 30 images of child pornography on his computer.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alex J. Grant of Loucks’ Springfield Branch Office.
