Immediate Release New Hampshire Man Sentenced on Federal Domestic Violence ChargePortland, Maine: United States Attorney Paula D. Silsby announced today that a federal judge sitting in Portland today sentenced Albert Smith, 46, formerly of Rochester, New Hampshire, to serve 46 months in federal prison for interstate domestic violence. On August 8-9, 2008, Smith and an intimate partner were residing together at the Indian River Campground in Eliot, Maine. In the early morning hours of August 9, 2008, Smith forced her to drive cross the state line from Eliot, Maine into Dover, New Hampshire and back again while he assaulted her repeatedly with his fists and feet. The assault included Smith slamming the victim's head into the driver's side window causing it to shatter. Smith's forty-six months in prison will be followed by three years of supervised release. Silsby said that the investigation leading to the conviction was conducted
by the Eliot Police Department, the South Berwick Police Department and
the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
