As the only non-investigative
program in the Bureau, FBI Boston's Community Outreach Program focuses
its efforts on the community, the schools and the work-place. Our
goal is to assist our communities in the education of crimes, drugs,
gangs, and violence. This program highly supports the investigative
mission of the FBI by providing and developing programs that help
reduce societal problems.
The following programs have been implemented within the FBI's Boston Division's
Community Outreach Program:
Career
Days/Career Fairs/Business Presentations
The Boston Division
is available to make presentations in the New England area. To
request a speaker, please e-mail our Community Outreach Specialist
at susan.durkin@ic.fbi.gov. Please keep in mind that we do
need at least 3 to 6 weeks notice.
Adopt-A-School Program - Junior Special
Agent Program
The Boston Division
sponsors an Adopt-A-School Program where a school in the Massachusetts,
Rhode Island, New Hampshire or Maine area is chosen to be "adopted" by
FBI Boston. This program is a program in which 25 students
in elementary or middle school are afforded visits by FBI employees
twice a month. These visits include presentations on bank robberies,
computer crime, health care fraud, fingerprinting, drugs, civil rights,
recruiting, etc. The students are afforded a tour of the Boston
Division and a polygraph demonstration. At the end of the program,
the students receive a badge and credentials and are sent out into
the community to carry on the FBI's motto.
FBI
Citizens' Academy Program
The Boston FBI
Citizens' Academy is part of the Community Outreach Program and its'
mission is to provide education and awareness of FBI operations,
and jurisdictions, and to build solid lasting relationships with
community leaders and business leaders in the New England area. The
goals and objectives of the Academy include, but are not limited
to strengthening the existing relationship between the Boston FBI
and the community and educating the community at large by providing
substantive presentations by speakers who will review and explain
our efforts within the Terrorism, Violent Crime, Organized Crime/Drug
and White Collar Crime Programs. The Academy runs for six consecutive
Thursday evenings from April through May. A Saturday
session includes a SWAT demonstration and hands-on shooting.
Mentoring
Program
Boston FBI employees
volunteer their time with area inner-city youth through our "Mentors
Make A Difference" Program. This is a cooperative inter-agency
effort designed to match youth in the inner-city communities with
FBI employee mentors. The Boston Division mentors visit with
the students every week for one hour, assisting them with homework
and social skills.
Division
Tours/Job Shadows Days
Boston Division
tours for schools and youth groups are limited to 10 people at one
time and are only given on Mondays and Wednesdays. There will
be no exceptions.
Job Shadow Days are allowed at the Boston Division but are limited to two hours. A
student cannot be placed with an FBI agent for the whole day because of security
reasons.
